City of Batumi
City of Batumi

After Samsun Percy suddenly was cycling more persistently and faster then before, so that even the odometer couldn't keep up anymore. The prospect of the casinos in Batumi was the cause of his sudden motivation.
-But as we arrived in Batumi, it was a big disappointement because they didn't play poker at the casinos-

We spent a few days in Batumi and were very impressed about those huge modern buildings which were just standing next to old common skyscrapers.
For us it was such a strange view on this city, where monuments seem to drop out from a fairytale and just accidentally have fallen into Georgian reality.

Nice coincidences
In the hostel of Batumi we have met a "longtimetraveller" woman from America and spent the evening in good company, while eating a tasty vegetable dinner at Uncle Feng's Cafe.

In the same hostel Cécile found surprisingly a german book in the bookshelf of georgian literature. How funny! The book "Vrenelis Gärtli" is a story that played in the suisse Alpes by a time the people still believed in whichcraft.

In a roundabout we were taking a short stop to make sure where we are, as all of a sudden Mikael from France walked smiling towards us. We had a short chat and were amazed by his stories,  he was hitchhiking and walking through several countries even trough Iran, with a very low budget. But he was smiling like the sun in springtime and made a bunch of wonderful experiences.

We'll have visitors!
Once Percy was joking to his parents, that they might come to visit us and bring some good cloaks with protection -we have got used to this luxury, rarely having flat tires and don't want to miss it-
We had hardly said that, they had already booked a flight! How amazing! How lucky we are, having so great parents!

They (A.&U.) even went to search for the missing part of our benzin stove, that Cécile has forgotten in the caravan, and they found it!

So we're happily looking forward to the 23th of February, when we will meet them (H.&E.) in Tbilisi.
Kutaisi
Kutaisi
After two weeks cycling through the middle of Georgia we arrived in Tbilisi. It took us so long, because we were enjoying the rainy days with resting in small and big towns. While drinking coffee and tasting the traditional veggie food we waited for good weather.

Second flat tire
In Kutaisi Percy's front wheel lost air again. He haid a flat tire because of the wire that broke out of the cloak.
We fixed it again with an alluminium part from our stove. It's unbelievable, but it works!

But we need defenetly a better solution if we want to drive in more rural regions. So we were looking for good strong cloaks in every city, but couldn't find sustainable gear.

Rikotipass

After we enjoyed cycling through a wide level with the view on the surrounding mountains and driving over bridges above shiny rivers, we drove up to the Rikoti-Pass and suddenly the winter hit us.

The snowy landscape was so beautyful, that's why we still enjoyed cycling even in freezing temperatures. But in the evening under the hot shower, we suffered from big pain on the feets because theire toes were so frozen.

Ready to go hiking

So now, while we're waiting for them in Tiblisi, we are organizing the next stages and preparing us to discover the georgian mountains and rural areas. And of course we are giving our muscles some rest while bathing in the hot springs of Tbilisi.

Wow I admire both of you for pushing through with your bicycle tour with these extreme low temperatures. And they will get lower by the day. Hope to see you in Lhasa or Kathmandu even Baguio would be great.
